I’ve found great joy in teaching improv to newcomers over the years. Introducing people to the world of creative expression through performance and play has become an important part of what I do.
I have been running improv workshops for beginner students, corporate teams and actors in Melbourne since 2015, through Impro Melbourne, The Big Hoo-Haa, Impromptunes and now, with Melbourne Unscripted.
My improv workshops are designed to be accessible and engaging for all skill levels, from beginners who have never performed in public to experienced improvisers looking to add a new dimension to their craft. My approach to teaching improv emphasises playfulness, collaboration, and risk-taking. I create a safe, supportive environment where students feel encouraged to step outside their comfort zones and embrace the unknown. Through a variety of exercises and games, I help students develop essential skills like active listening, emotional expression through song, and the ability to create compelling characters and stories in the moment.
Improv is a rich and varied landscape that can help people of all ages develop self-confidence, creative expression, communication, and collaboration skills. These are life skills that can be built and experimented with on the stage. Most importantly, improv workshops are fun, safe places to experiment and learn from failure in positive ways.
